Poker is a much sought after game by gamblers in any casinos. So apart from certain rules that vary from one casino to another, most have a general set of card room regulation for the players. For example, players wanting to avail poker playing facilities in the casinos can only do so as long as there is accommodation available and those who come first, get served first. This often is evident in some casinos with limited seats where there is a long waiting list of gamblers eager to play the various games. Some casinos allow players to call in beforehand and keep a place reserved for them for a period of time.
Most of the casinos do not allow poker games to be played with hard cash, though in some houses it is permitted. So, generally an alternate currency system is prevalent where players can buy casino chips on payment of money and use the chips to bet. These chips can either be bought from a selling counter installed for that purpose or sometimes there is a casino staff appointed for supplying players with chips as they want. However, it is a common rule in casinos not to allow chip transaction between players.
Unlike many other gambling games, poker is typically played among players and not against the house. So, the only source of revenue for the casinos is charging of fees. One such is the commission called rake where the game is played for low stakes and for ring games, this amount can vary from 5 to 10% for individual poker hands up to a preset maximum value. In Californian casinos where rake cannot be legally charged based on the pot size, it is calculated on the table limit of betting. For higher stake games, a casino often charges a rental fee on an hourly basis, called the time fee. For poker tournaments, the participants generally have to pay a fee of about 10% of the buy-in.
